The first story that distracted me from Wings (ironic, as it was actually supposed to be an arc IN Wings, before the idea so fascinated me I wrote it before Wings had even finished its first arc. Unlike other story distractions, at least it didn’t turn into a Tom Clancy length book), Time and Time Again is the typical time travel story. And unlike a lot of time travel stories, it stopped before the complicated nature of time travel resulted in none of the story making sense (I’m looking at YOU, Terminator series). It also gave my version of why Slade, a world class assassin, devotes so much of his attention to a group of teen heroes. Of course, the ending set up another Stuish moment, but I never claimed to be perfect!

This story also marks the first appearance of several elements that later appeared in my stories, including a future world with Titan children. Which is another sign of Stu-Dom. Sigh. I try. I really do. I think I’ll just leave you with a song that defines the story and move on.

Alone

And there’s no tomorrow

I should have known

All the pain and sorrow

If I could only see your mind

Desperate measures for desperate times…

(Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, lahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,

(Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, lalalalalala…)

I can’t stand the pain

Soon you’ll know

I still love you

The fact still remains

Time will tell

I still love you

It bleeds…

And the saints are crying

It’s raised in solitude

But there’s no use in dying

Things between us you can’t hide

Stranger’s hand placed upon your mind…

(Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, lahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,

(Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, lalalalalala…)

I can’t stand the pain

Soon you’ll know

I still love you

The fact still remains

Time will tell

I still love you

You can’t see him…

But he’s there, inside

Which two voices…

You will decide in time

In Tiiiiiiimmmmmmeeee…

I can’t stand the pain

Soon you’ll know

I still love you

The fact still remains

Time will tell

I still love you

I can’t stand the pain

Soon you’ll know

I still love you

The fact still remains

Time will tell

I still love you…
